Umber wasn't built in a studio. Its roots come from Jasmine's personal struggle with hirsutism, a condition linked to PCOS that caused years of unwanted hair growth and skin challenges. After trying every option like razors, creams, DIY masks, even electrolysis, she was left frustrated, out of time and money, and scarred from failed hair removal methods. She was convinced she'd be stuck plucking and shaving forever.

Refusing to settle for quick fixes or empty promises, Jasmine spent years researching the root causes of excessive hair growth, exploring holistic healing, Ayurvedic practices, and natural remedies, paired with real trial and error on her own skin. Out of that came Umber: dermatologist-tested, plant-based products built around what actually helped her, not what the industry was selling.

Established in 2019, way before "clean beauty" and hair inhibitors became trendy, Umber has always been rooted in lived experience, not hype. Jasmine's mission remains simple: make sure no one else spends years feeling stuck the way she did.

Jasmine Nelson was born in Houston, TX, and moved to Oakland, CA at 16. She now lives back in Houston with her husband and two energetic boys. Before launching her brand, she studied Architecture and Fashion Design at California College of the Arts in San Francisco, disciplines that shaped her eye for design, structure, and detail.
